Is your hair feeling dry? Maybe your scalp is itchy. These are the effects of the new season beginning. As the winter chill sets in, our hair falls victim to dry, cold air. Take time to consider how to keep your hair healthy, vibrant and shiny so you will continue to glow throughout all the seasons. Let's explore some essential tips to keep your hair hydrated and scalp balanced through the winter months.

1. Moisture-Rich Shampoos and Conditioners:

Start your winter hair care routine with a moisture-rich shampoo and conditioner. Look for products containing ingredients like oils which provide the extra hydration your hair needs during this season. Oils are absorbed into the hair and smooth the cuticle down. I love Keune's lightweight Satin Oil shampoo, conditioner and oil treatment to treat dryness.

2. Limit Wash Frequency:

Lather, rinse, repeat, right? Yes, just don’t do it every day if you want healthy and beautiful hair. Washing your hair too frequently can strip away its natural oils, leading to increased dryness. Try to space out your washes, and when you do shampoo, use lukewarm water instead of hot water to avoid further drying out your strands.

3. Deep Conditioning Treatments:

Treat your hair to a weekly deep conditioning session. Apply a nourishing hair mask after shampooing and let the treatment soak in for 3-5 minutes to allow the ingredients to deeply penetrate and hydrate your hair. Check these treatment options out!

4. Protective Styling:

Shield your hair from harsh winter winds by opting for protective styles like braids, twists, or buns. These styles not only keep your hair tucked away but also minimize exposure to the elements. This is a great time to get creative and have fun with styling!

5. Avoid Excessive Heat Styling:

Limit the use of hot tools like flat irons, curling irons and blow-dry brushes during winter. Excessive heat can contribute to dryness and damage. If you need to style your hair, use a heat protectant spray like 2-Pase Spray and opt for lower heat settings.

6. Humidify Your Living Spaces:

A humidifier will add moisture to the air in your home when the heat is on. This will help your hair and skin from feeling dry.

7. Trim Regularly:

Regular trims to cut off split ends prevent them from traveling up the hair shaft. A little ¼ or ½ inch trim will keep your hair healthier and it will grow longer than if you don’t follow this tip.

8. Hydrate from Within:

Don't forget to drink plenty of water! Hydration starts from within, so drink up and apply the tips above for optimal results.

Wave goodbye to your winter hair woes by following our tips. It’s as easy as using hydrating hair care products, being mindful about washing and heat styling frequencies, and taking time for self-care like visiting the salon for a trim, or exploring our online shop for all of your home hair care favorites.
